26 May A males perspective on what went down front row
Meet Luke Payne, Builder and Owner of Abroenet Constructions by day, mixing with the fashion elite by night.
I wanted to know my husband’s perspective on what went down at Australian fashion weekend, so I got curious and asked him a few questions.
Last weekend was the 21st year of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia. A runway event that has been showcasing established Australian Designers and fostering emerging talent for over two decades.
When I originally asked my husband to come along, his response was….’I guess this is like the fashion Grand Final. I need to come and see what this is all about’.
What was your expectation of the night? The last event I went to was the opening night of Australia’s Next top Model. The only highlight of that night was glimpses of Megan Gale and Jennifer Hawkins a few rows in front. The rest of the night was a letdown. I went into this night with a very low expectation.
What was your style for the night? I wore chinos, white shirt and a navy blazer. Pulled out my pointy blue shoes – that always guarantee a good night out.
What did you drink in the VIP lounge? Kronenburgh 1664
Tell us about the venue…It was held at Carriage works, Eveleigh. The old Rail yards on Wilson Street. The nineteenth century industrial atmosphere with heritage iron and exposed brick detailing made for an amazing atmosphere. Very inspiring in design and structure. A great back drop to take in while having pre runway drinks.
Who was your favourite designer and why? Manning Cartel, just because it seemed commercial and colourful to me.
Favourite runway piece ….. A stripe dress really stood out. Apparently according to my wife it was a Rebecca Vallance design. I believe her. I noticed a lot of lace, colour, see through fabrics and flowing garments. The models didnt seem too excited about what they were wearing though. They looked very bored.
Highlight of the night…The lady in the white top that forgot her Hollywood tape. Lucky I had some to share.
What was in the front row goodie bag? Mercedes Benz USB stick, Hollywood tape, mineral water, Royal Dolton tea bags and my personal favourite – lollies.
Best dressed in the front row……Only one smart answer to that question. The stylist from ‘That’s My Style’.
Will you be back? Can’t wait for next year and I have the Hollywood tape!!
