Cheat sheet – Slogan tee trend

Like it or loathe it, the slogan tee is in vogue in an epic way.

I am sitting on the fence about the return of this iconic look from the 80’s. While shopping with a client in Country road this week I spotted the return of their embroidered logo tee in several colours and realised this trend has saturated the mass market. Sportsgirl bought it back with the new label ‘ vintage Sportsgirl’.

Logomania is everywhere from high-end Gucci to budget disposable high street brands.

What you need to think about when adding a slogan tee to your wardrobe, is that you are essentially marketing a brand by wearing their slogan across your chest. So be sure it’s a brand you are happy to advertise and promote. It’s is a declaration that you are buying into that brand and what it represents. Do they align with your values and beliefs or is it just a bit of fun?  Is it a status purchase, a personal statement or a political message?

I am a big fan of the slogan tees that are not brand driven but are making a difference by educating and giving back. Decjuba is using this trend as an opportunity to promote and support the Hunger project. Auguste the label donates 100% of the sale price of their ‘woman’ slogan tee to @unwomanaust. It’s a great way to make a statement and support a cause that empowers women. Big YES from me.

The ‘state the obvious’ tees that you can find online from ASOS are meant to just be fun and on trend. I like my slogans cheeky and fun.

One thing I know for sure is that it’s a super easy item to style and integrate into your existing wardrobe. A great basic and easy to add layers to like below.

The Logomania is a trend that will come and go. I predict this seasons on trend slogan tee will be found tucked into your pyjama drawer within 12 months.  Invest in a luxury branded tee if this is a style you think will last long term for you. Embrace it and pick a tee that sends the right message for your style.
